Open a door

You need access to this door at the current time. Your site may give you a member account, a temporary pass, a physical card, or a wallet credential. Use the method your site has provided.

With the Seamless app

  1. Turn on Bluetooth and allow Seamless to use it. Stand beside the door.
  2. Open Seamless. For a member account, open Locks and select the correct site. For a temporary pass, check the site in the pass banner and open its door list.
  3. Find the door by name. Nearby helps locate locks in Bluetooth range; a door appearing in All does not mean you can operate it from your current location.
  4. Tap the door tile to unlock, or use its separate unlock button if your list shows one. Long-press behavior depends on your app and permissions; it is not the tile's unlock gesture. If using an unlock control in details, follow its prompt, including press-and-hold where shown.
  5. Wait for the app to report success, then use the door's knob or handle to open it. Open promptly if the lock automatically relocks.
  6. Close the door behind you and follow your site's instructions for securing it.

If the lock needs Spin to wake or Efficiency behavior, spin the knob to wake it before retrying. A dark light alone does not tell you whether the lock is broken or whether you have access.

At a signed-in Link site, the app provides device management without the standard member unlock control. Use the credential provided by that site. Temporary passes have their own door-unlock experience.

With a physical card

  1. Approach the lock. If it uses spin-to-wake behavior, spin the knob first.
  2. Present your issued card at the reader and wait for the light response.
  3. A green response means the credential was accepted. When the lock releases, operate the knob or handle to open the door.
  4. Close the door behind you. The site's locking mode determines whether it automatically secures again.

If the lock gives a red rejection response, move the card away and check that you are at the correct door during your allowed hours. Repeated presentations will not extend your access. Contact the site if a fresh attempt still fails.

With a phone or watch wallet credential

First add the credential to the supported wallet using your site's invitation or the app's wallet setup. An emailed temporary pass used in Seamless is a different access method.

  1. Wake the lock if needed.
  2. Present the phone or supported watch at the compatible reader, following your wallet's instructions. Complete any authentication it requests.
  3. Wait for the result, then operate the door when the lock releases.

Opening Seamless and selecting a door uses Bluetooth. Presenting a wallet credential at a reader uses the wallet's access method; the site must support that credential type.

It accepted my credential, but the door did not open

An accepted credential and an open door are different events. You still need to operate the door hardware. If you waited too long, an auto-relocking lock may already have secured again.

Some sites use Toggle, Absolute, or Reader locking modes. An accepted credential can secure an already-unsecured lock or only record a read. Do not keep presenting a credential to a toggle lock: each accepted presentation changes its state. Ask the site how that door is meant to operate.

If the app reports success but the hardware still does not release, tell the site contact what happened. Avoid forcing the knob or handle.
